Mission:
Prologue: To Boldly Go
Location: Outside Holodeck 1
Timeline: Day 9 - after the crew board Fenrir
ON:
Leaning back against the bulkhead, Gabriel glanced down the corridor with a soft sigh, his foot lifted and tapping gently against the wall. He'd been on duty just before the security training had been scheduled in the holodeck so he'd figured he'd head straight down. Otherwise he was 100% guaranteed to be late by getting distracted. Which wasn't a good look only a few days into his new posting.
He'd wondered, for just a moment, if Aria had deliberately given him the shift before the training session just to make sure he was nice and tired, so he didn't have as much energy to be a smart mouth throughout. He supposed he couldn't blame her, it wasn't entirely an unknown phenomenon. But since doing his specialised hazard training, he'd learnt the fine art of biting the inside of his lip to keep burning comments back. Well, mostly.
"Mr Stark." S'Ralor said as he approached the holodeck doors and saw the man standing there. "Good to see you, hope you're ready for whatever the boss can throw at us."
Gabriel grinned as he pushed himself away from the bulkhead, looking S'Ralor up and down as if to assess whether he was up to it himself. "Oh don't you worry about me, mate, I'm just curious as to whether you can keep up..." his tone was entirely playful though, clearly opening the floor up for some friendly competitiveness.
"Even if our situations were reversed and I'd just come off a shift I'd still be doing more than just 'keeping up' with you." S'Ralor countered.
"Yeah yeah, all fur and no bite..." Gabriel replied with a playful lilt to his voice...because he knew full well that S'Ralor was right. He was a bloody tank of a guy.
"No biting, without written permission from a superior officer..." Aria Rice was practically skipping over to them, her hair tied back from her face and a genuine smile plastered on it. "And remember, first one to do something stupid buys the drinks. Unless they're moi, that is. If I do something stupid, I get us nibbles instead."
"Corruption," the stoic faced Beon declared as he approached and joined the growing group of security officers gathering in the corridor. "That's called corruption." His face, intrenched with lines that made him seem all the more stern and severe, was held so still that it was impossible to tell if he was joking or serious.
"Nah, incentive and rewards," Aria countered as she looked at him, with an easy smile and warmth. "We avoid corruption. And bad romulan ale, we avoid that too."
"I'll have you know Romulan ale is still illegal, any you find, good or bad, will be confiscated by me." Daniel said as he made his appearance outside the holodeck. "Glad to see you all here. Are you all ready for this little training scenario we've cooked up?"
Gabriel nodded as he straightened up a tad, unable to keep the curiosity from his features. "So long as it's not borg...I hate doing borg..."
"Yes the borg are not very fun." Daniel replied, he'd been lucky to never encountered them but many a training scenario had proven them to be an extremely challenging enemy. "Computer load security training scenario Beta 4-7."
"Program loaded, enter when ready." The computer responded.
Gabriel strolled in with the others, glancing around with obvious curiosity to try and figure out what he might have them doing. In truth, he was pretty lopsided in his expertise. He'd had advanced weapons and Hazard training, but starship tactical was not his forte, and they appeared to be on the bridge, for now at least.
Most of the other bridge stations were occupied by holo-generated officers and crew, even the central chair was occupied by a representation of Commander Blake.
"Lieutenant Rice," Daniel began to announce. "You have the tactical station, Petty Officer Beon, man the auxiliary station. S'Ralor and Stark, for now assume bridge security positions. Standard duty equipment."
"Aye Sirr." S'Ralor strode across the bridge to the bridge turbolift, one of the only access points to the bridge that didn't involve crawling through endless tubes and passageways, or a transporter.
"Yes Sir," Aria said and walked to the tactical station. She stood there for a moment, her hands feeling over the console. It felt familiar, even if the layout was different than her previous ships.
An 'Aye Sir' came out of Beon's mouth, but in a sort of 'hmph' sound as he made his way to the auxiliary station. His ever serious features remained stoic as he took in the display, but found no clues as to their challenge yet.
Gabriel wouldn't admit it out loud, but he was a touch relieved to be given guard duty. He moved to his post with a spring in his step, body coiled but relaxed. He resisted the urge to have his hand ready on his weapon, because that just wasn't realistic. Instead, he stood poised but ready.
Daniel moved to sit in the Xo chair. "Our assignment is to protect this transport convoy on its way to the Chin'toka system. Computer begin simulation." He called out.
The computer responded with a chirp and moments later the bridge and its simulated crew at the other stations came to life.
Rice smiled as the station came to life, doing the quick checks. Fully charged phaser banks, photon torpedoes. "All green here," she said, to herself.
S'Ralor glanced across to Stark on the other side of the door with a small smile on his face, "Jem'hadar, been a while since I fought one of them." He said quietly.
"Before my time," Gabriel half whispered back to him with a small smile at admitting it out loud. "Holo'hadar are all I know..."
"Only just before mine, war ended the month after I applied for the military. Holodeck Jem'Hadar are a pretty good representation."
"Captain, I'm picking up a squadron of attack ships, bearing 045 mk12, range.2 light years." Beon called out from the Aux console.
'Captain Blake' stood from her chair, pacing forward as her hands fell to rest on her hips. "Raise shields, Red Alert, on screen," she called back, but her eyes were fixed on the screen to get a view of their new friends. "Confirm their heading?"
Beon was silent for a moment as he double checked the screen. "One is heading for the convoy, the other two straight for us."
"Perfect, let's get the attention of the other one heading toward the convoy too," Blake looked back to Masters, nodding firmly. "We stay between them and that convoy, no matter what, 'Commander."
"Aye Captain." Daniel replied then raised his voice a little so everyone on the bridge could hear him clearly over the red alert klaxon. "Attack pattern Omega, target the single attack ship, open fire as soon as they're in range."
"Yes Sir," Aria said with a small smile, counting down in her head and keeping an eye. As soon as they were in range she moved her hand. "Opening fire," she announced, because half of this was making sure that everyone knew what she was doing.
Red lances of energy leapt from the phaser arrays of the Fenrir striking the shields of the Dominion ship but not breaking through, the attack ship aborted its run on the convoy and turned head on towards the federation ship.
"Looks like we got his attention," Beon remarked.
The ship shuddered as the other two attack ships opened fire on the Fenrir, their polaron beams flaring purple against the blackness of space, their fire was soon joined by the single ship barraging the shields from several different angles.
Aria held onto her console, frowning as she moved her fingers. "Shields at 87%!" she called out, continuing firing. "And that's overall, they're spreading it really evenly here."
More phaser fire burst from the Fenrir striking the ship ahead of them, it's shields crackled and pulsed as it struggled to contain the energy.
"Targets shields at 10%, reading damage to their life support and both nacelles." Beon reported grinning as the damage readouts appeared on his screen."
"Photon torpedoes, fire!" Daniel ordered knowing the enemy ship wouldn't be able to stand a volley in its weakened state.
Aria's fingers tapped for a moment and she saw the signal. "Firing!" she called, even if it had already happen and was unfolding. She saw the impact, the way that explosions worked in space. Silent things, a moment where tone slowed...before the explosion as the torpedoes detonated.
"Target destroyed." Beon called out excitedly though that was short lived and a heavy shake of the ship nearly caused him to fall out of his chair.
Aria groaned as she got thrown onto her console, the pain making her hiss. Okay, bruise incoming. "Shields are 34%!" she called out, pushing some hair from her forehead that had escaped its tight confines. "Locking on the next target."
"Whoa...!" Gabriel dug his heels down hard and tried to ride the blast by sheer will and extremely tense core muscles. A split second decision changed his strategy and he tried to move with it instead. He lurched forward, just about managing to grab the railing in front of him to save himself from spilling to the ground...saving his dignity just as much as his kneecaps.
Beon grimaced as he looked ahead, shaking his head which made his long hair move with it. "Diverting more power to the shields," he said, making a decision. Another few hits like that and they'd fail. And he hated failing.
Having naturally great balance S'Ralor rode out the shock in his digitgrade legs
Red and purple weapons fire flew through the empty space between the three ships, shield grids rippled and crackled.
Alerts burst from both the tactical and auxiliary consoles. "There's a gap in our starboard shields, Deck 6."" Beon called out.
"Helm bring us about quick," Daniel ordered.
=/\= Security to shuttle bay 2 =/\= a panicked voice came over the comm system.
Aria looked over at Daniel for a moment, taking a slow breath. "We have Jem'Hadar beaming in, Sir," she said, watching him. "Dispatching security team to shuttle bay 2."
Daniel almost went to leave his seat wanting to head down there himself but knew he shouldn't without his Captain's permission, instead he turned to his two companions stood by the bridge turbolift "Stark, S'Ralor, get down there give them a hand."
Stark looked across to S'Ralor, giving him a firm nod as he finally pulled his weapon and headed to the lift. Holo'Hadar were no picnic, but he was always eager to get his hands dirty. And at least it wasn't Borg. The Borg were the worst...and absolutely no fun whatsoever. Despite their leather club get up. He glanced to his colleague as they 'rode' the turbolift to get to the shuttle bay. He could literally stand behind him and be in perfect cover. "I'll take point..." he assured with that in mind.
